Display Clutter – Information Design for High Performance

High display clutter can have a negative influence on user performance. In my doctoral research I investigated how display clutter can influence financial decision making and visual attention control. The statistical results show that with “confusing” information design, people make less coherent decisions. Furthermore, users’ visual attention distribution is more random when exposed to high display clutter. However, high display clutter does not have the same impact on all user groups. Different expertise levels of the users have to be considered.
